What is the thoughts out there on hooking up an elect. fan. Should it be hooked up to the ignition, controlled by a thermostat that goes off when the key is turned off. Or should it be hooked up to a hot line that is on all the time and only controlled by the thermostat.

My neighbor has an electric fan on his Nomad and it is regulated by a switch that he operates. This is all good as long as you are paying attention to the temp gauge and everything with the gauge is accurate. I would wire it so that the fan is run off a temp switch on the radiator and will operate only with the ignition in the on position.

I wqould hook it up to a relay and stat. This way it will come on at temp and shut back off when it cools. Easy to install and you can get an adjustable one for around $50

Most electric have a thermostat to keep running after the car is off to cool it for a minute. I recommend hooking it up to power like it says to, but on my cars I have a spare switch to manually turn it on when I am at the race track to cool between runs. You really want it to be able to let the car warm up properly, and most of the fans have adjustable t-stats that you can set to 160 degrees to come on as soon as it gets up to operating temps, and it cools for a minute after parking.
