'46 Clipper 2-door

    I have a line on a supposedly running/driving '46 or '47 Clipper 2-door with good chrome, complete car, missing the rear bumper, and needing a headliner and the seats redone. Door panels are supposedly good, as is all of the glass. Story is the car has been in either a garage or a pole barn since 1959, when it was last tagged. The car had been moved and started periodically over the past 47 years on the farm it's located at. Current owner inherited it from his grandfather, and he also inherited the farm the car is located at.



    I can get this car dirt cheap, and if it's anything at all, I intend to get the car...so NO, I'm not divulging the location of the car until I bring it home. My questions are few - Is a rear bumper difficult to come by? Are engine parts, clutches, and other drivetrain items relatively easy to obtain, or would I be money ahead rodding it versus stock (prices of stock parts?). I looked up the '46 and '47 cars up on ask.com for pics, and they are very nice-looking rides, to be sure!:D

    Went to look at the "Packard" today. It wasn't a '46, wasn't a Packard, wasn't a two-door, and it hadn't run since JFK was in office.



    What it IS is a '54 Cadillac 4-door, no eng/trans, no title, and it's sat outside for probably 40 years or more. There are probably just enough rust molecules holding the car together to winch it on a trailer heading for the metal recycler. Needless to say, I was pretty pissed off at the guy who told me about this "Packard".



    The guy who does own the car is a pretty cool guy, though, and has a very nice '58 Pontiac Bonneville hardtop he's owned for nearly 40 years, and a couple of street rodded Fords. It was at this guy's late grandfather's house, and it had been sitting next to a hay shed since the early '60s. All in all, an interesting day. Also looked at a crew cab '68 Dodge D200 today, and got a line on another Dodge truck, this one a '66 W100 Power Wagon!

    That's to bad that you were mis-led. I know how that goes unfortunately. What makes it even more frustrating is that they wern't just wrong on one item but several.



    Is he looking to sell the 58 Pontiac?
