1932 Essex?

I have a chance at buying a 1932 Essex coach 2 door. It has been sitting for years and is all original. I am finding it rather difficult to even find any pictures of these cars to show my wife. Can anyone enlighten me on these cars? Were they good cars? does anyone have one?

Just F.Y.I, the fastest way to see a photo of a '32 Essex is simply to go to your search engine (like Google) and type "1932 Essex" or 1932-Essex (thus linking the two words together), and then hit the IMAGES button.
If, on the other hand, you hit the WEB button, Google will show you any web pages in which '32 Essexes are mentioned.
Sorry, I have no experience with '32's except to say that they were a smaller and cheaper version of the '32 Hudson, but larger than the '32 Essex Terraplane. I assume their quality is commensurate with that of the Hudson for that year.
Just look in your national H-E-T roster, and you'll be able to find others who own that car. Or, you might check the back pages of the WTN to see who's in charge of the Essex (or '32 Essex) rregistry. He would have a list of folks who own one (that is, if he has this info. on his registry). -

Wasnt there talk recently that they were just about the best essex-hudson got on there geometry and weight? a week or two ago
or am just confused

No you're right it was a discussion that the Essex Terraplane had a better power to weight ratio than the '32 Ford V8 of that year. A peppy lil car from what I'm told. I know for a fact the T8 is!! I never hear any complaints about that car's quality.... now the first series super 6 of the 1920's was a whole nother story. There's a picture in Butler's book if you have it. -
1932 was the last of what you might call the old style Hudson products in the Hudson and Essex models, but were basically very similar to what was produced in 1933, The Essex models had a sunvisor and used the old style engine and had a more upright grille and unskirted fenders. The terraplane was also a 1932 model introduction, but had the engine which became the 3x5 splasher used till 1947. Lots of mechanical parts are interchangable with the 1933 cars. If you are lucky to find a complete one,go for it. they were good cars.

Those are pictures of a Essex Terraplane, He wants info on a Essex from what he posted. They look different than the Terraplane.

I'm not sure where you received your information, but the Essex was introduced in 1919 by Essex Motors, which was a wholely owned by the Hudson Motor Car Company. And yes, all the 1932's are very rare. The Essex was produced during the 1st half of the production run, and the "Essex Terraplane" was introduced in July 1932 as a replacement for the Essex line.

Essex began life as a separate company within the Hudson corporate structure with the officers of Hudson filling positions at Essex. Around 1927 this arrangement changed and Essex became a division, if you will, of Hudson. First shipments went out around Dec of 1918 and. as Hudson did in 1909 considering the Hudson cars built in 1909 as 1910 models, the first Essex's were considered 1919 models. It was introduced as a low price addition to the Hudson line. And it sold very well, with peak shipments of 229,887 units in 1928 (actual production figures are not available).
It was never "bought by Hudson in 1932" or any other year.
The 1932 Essex was offered in two series - the E Pacemaker and the EC Standard, and only as a 6 cylinder. The motor featured a bore x stroke of 2-15/16 x 4-1/4 for 193 cid. It was the same engine that had been introduced in 1924 at 2-5/8 x 4" for 129.8 cid, emulating the small bore x long stroke European engines of the time. Over the years it was bored out and stroked to 3 x 5 giving 212 cubes that was used from 1934 thru 1947, giving the engine a life span of over 20 years.
I will agree with Busted - these are neat cars, very peppy and fun to drive. There are probably more of them left than Hudsons, but that's because more were built. Any old car today is a good investment in addition to being fun to drive and have.
