8-volts on radio

We are running an 8-volt battery in our Hornet. Once having gotten the voltage regulator adjusted properly this seems to be a good thing. Only thing is, the radio can't tolerate it. Has anybody experimented with this and do you know what sort of resistor should be used? We can figure this out ourselves but I'm lazy and I bet someone here has already been down this path.
