1950 Packard

Hello all. I am considering buying a 1950 Packard 4 door with a straight 8. All the origional parts are on or in the vehicle except the air cleaner. About 50% of the chrome parts were rechromed about 4 years ago. The body is solid with the exception of some bondo on the rockers. The engine started and ran for about 5 min the other day. It sounded fairly tight. Does anyone know what this car is worth? The guy want $1000 for it. I am not sure if I want to totally restore it or go semi custom, but it seemed like a pretty good deal. Oh yea... it would need a total paint job... it was repainted in the 70's to a lighter green than origional. Any help would be much appreciated.

Sounds like a reasonable price if the tranny is ok; is it stick or ultramatic? If it's Ultramatic, suggest a trip around the block for sure and check for leaks. The engine is probably the 327 straight 8, which is a good engine holding 7 quarts of oil.
