You mean the wing? Guess the creator of this was thinking of it more as a 'dragster'...

Except for the wing!.......Awesome! I had a '56 Convertible Metro when I was a kid, but that 4 cyl Healey would never stand against this one! Saw a blown BBC in one at the Good bGuys meet here late last year, and how cool!

I tried to get my son to buy one when he was in High School. He said that he would be arrested if he drove it, even in stock form. I asked him "Why" and his reply was that he would have to fill it full of drugs and alcohol to give to the thugs to keep from being beat up. He has no appreciation of Metros.

My Dad got me a Metro when I was 15 he paid $100 for it it was Blue on the bottom and white on top. It did not run he towed it home threw the keys at me and said make it run. I stripped out the ignition and replaced most of it. It had Lucas wiring and I don't think I need to say anymore about that. After replacing most of the wiring I got it running. Ran nice for a little 4 cyl. My Dad put plates on it and I drove it around the back roads with a learners. Yeah illegal like but no one cared. After I got my license I drove it a while an old guy saw me driving it and offered me $500 for it I asked my Dad he said its up to you. I sold it and got a Fiat Spider which was red and of course a sports car we paid $400 for that it didn't run either but my Dad knew it needed a new oil switch because they had a safety switch that turned off the electric fuel pump if the car flipped and the engine stopped it wouldn't pump gas and go on fire. I kind of thought if I flipped a convertible gas would be the least of my worries. We bought that off the dealer Dad opened the hood replaced the switch and I started the car and drove it off the lot the sales guy was pissed because they didn't know squat about Fiats. He tried to get my Dad to pay more said we cheated him Dad told him to go fornicate with himself and that was the end of that. When you turned it on to start it just clicked and the oil warning light came on they of course thought something bad was happening. The car was near mint. I of course drove the living crap out of the that car in 1st, 2nd and 3rd I red lined it. It was a sports car. That car took more sh*t and abuse than any car I have had since. I once pushed my brothers Olds 88 home by putting my jacket up on the front bumper and slowly moving towards the olds until I was touching his rear bumper I then pushed him home 20 blocks. Sold that for $1500 and used the money to restore a 1970 Buick Riviera my Dad had given me with a Stage-1 455 under the hood and that is an entirely separate story.

So the moral of that long winded piece of crap post of mine is Metro's were ok. I liked mine, yeah some people laughed but I got a kick out of driving it.

Heck, my Dad was a mechanic we had our own engine rebuild shop and Dad also rebuilt everything else from heads to starters and alternators. We had so many cars growing up I was always rebuilding something. When your 15-16 you don't care what you are driving I didn't I had everything from GTO's to Mustangs to even a Superbird. We had a red 1970 Superbird it was red with a white nose and wing the guy had done this paint scheme himself plus dropped the 426 Hemi in place of the 440 six pack that came with the car. He had blown the engine. Dad bought that off him for $2200 we rebuilt the Hemi and it had a 4 speed with pistol grip shifter. This was 1979. Dad drove it for about a month I got to drive it with Dad with me (he was too smart for me back then  ) It was fast but handled like a dog. About a month later Dad sold it for I think $6,000 I know crazy absolutely crazy. I remember back then thinking cool car but nothing special. We had SuperBees, Dusters, GSX's we rebuilt them drove them and sold them. Heck we didn't even take pictures of them when you grow up in a garage cars are cars. Some you love the rest you sell. The car I owned the longest was my 1970 Buick Riviera with a Stage-1 455 Dad and I did a compete resto on that stripped it down to the frame and started again, I kept that car 7 years then sold it to go to University. Got out of cars completely for 10 years then a Hudson called to me and I had to answer and the rest they say is history.
