Long Distance Rules
-
Does anyone know the specifics regarding qualifying for the Long Distance award at the HET Nationals?
Let's say a person left home a couple of weeks before the show, drove around the country on family vacation, and then ended up in Kearney for the show on the return trip home. Would that qualify? Or is it only the distance from your home to the show that counts?
Just curious.... -

I believe that it is the distance from your home to the destination. -
Home to event, direct route mileage."The time has come", the Walrus said, "to speak of many things. Of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings. And why the sea is boiling hot,
And whether pigs have wings..." -
The club's policy on awards, which is contained in the National Meet Manual, doesn't provide specific guidance on long-distance awards with regard to how the distance is calculated. The choice of what kind of awards are given, and how winners are determined, is left up to the host chapter(s). One hopes they will use good judgment in making these choices.
One can argue it both ways ... are you wanting to recognize the person who came from farthest away in a Hudson, or do you want to reward the one who had his Hudson on the road for the most miles between home and the meet? I think the most important thing is to make it clear to the registrants exactly what the award will be based on, so they can enter the appropriate mileage figure.
