41-47 Hudson Driveshaft Needed!
-
WANTED/NEEDED!I need a good driveshaft (not bent, dented or damaged) from a 1941-1947 Hudson car with a standard transmission - without overdrive. I am planning to install an overdrive transmission in the "Blue Goose" (see avatar), and will need a driveshaft that I can have shortened. Can't really use the pickup's existing driveshaft - it is tapered, and not easily modified. If you have a spare driveshaft you are willing to part with (or know of someone who does), please email me. I am in the Baltimore, Maryland area, within reasonable driving distance to areas of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia or West Virginia. If not within driving distance, I would be more than happy to pay reasonable shipping charges. As always, thank you for your consideration -

Hi Bob,BJ__TN wrote:Rick, Why not check out...Drive Train Specialists...Or a reputable machine shop in your area and see what it would cost to have a new shaft made. It may be cheaper than you think.
Or call 1-866-455-6622 Driveshaft Specialists Maybe they can help you.
Bob
That was & is a thought, and I'll be checking into that as well, should I not be able to come up with a suitable used one.
In case anyone has an interest, here's a couple of online vendors -

I'll get out my tape measure this weekend and re-measure, just to be sure. I'm pretty sure of the minimum length - but will double check my measurements, just to be sure. I am told that a driveshaft from a 41-47 sedan (with a standard 3-speed trans) is long enough to be modified for use with the '3-speed w/OD' I am putting into my pickup.
It makes sense, as the wheelbase difference between the car & the truck is less than the difference in the increased length of the transmissions (3-speed with O/D vs. 3-speed without O/D).
BTW - I also have a "Parts Wanted" going into the next issue of the WTN & CBC Chapter newsletter 'HudsonAire".
