Carburetor gaskets

    I am re-installing my dual carbs (Carter 968's) and haven't been able to find the gaskets. The manual says you need a total of 16 (8 for each carb). I would like to make them myself but I don't know the proper material type or thickness. Can anyone advise me.

    Ed,Go to Dale Cooper do not attempt to drive yourself nuts looking elsewhere. He has them at very reasonable prices.Remember, it's four above the deflector shield and four below on each carb.good luck.

    save yourself some time, these heat shields are things of beauty! really compliment the gasket packs you get from Dale Cooper. Best money you can spend on your twin h!

    If you don't want to use the gasket stacks, you can use Felpro part # 60269 one above and one below heat shield. On my 54 Hornet I use the 60269 and a 60274 on each carb. I have a set of Bill's stainless heat shields very nice looking. Lou Cote

    Looks like Lou had the answer to the gasket stack question, gosh, over a year ago. Bumping this up because the search doesn't work? :p



    60269 is $3.26 at autozone

    60274 is $4.36 at autozone

    May I suggest that you bookmark the H-E-T homepage ( http://www.hetclub.org/ ), then go there and click LINKS on the menu? You will find a list of many Hudson parts suppliers with hyperlinks directly to their websites. This includes Dale Cooper, who has a complete catalog online (along with a lot of the other suppliers).

    I'm curious. What could happen if 4 gaskets are below the heat shield, but only one is used above the heat shield and below the carb?

    Not sure Ron. The only reason I can see for the excess of gaskets has to be one of two things:



    1) Proper atomization of fuel/air mixture

    2) Raising the carbs (and fuel in the carb) higher above the heat from the intake/exhaust.



    My gut tells me that it's the former, above.

    Thanks.I thought that also, but, my 53 hornet has been like that for years. I don,t notice any quirks but when you never had the correct stacks I have nothing to compare.Still I wonder.Ron. See you in Detroit.

    The intake manifold studs will hit the carbs and you will have a bad vacuum leak. On WA-1s the outer stud hits the carb solid and when you try to tighten you will break the ear off. Now you have trouble. Walt.
