Front Shocks for my '39 Hudson?

Help! I am looking for a replacement or interchange shock set for the front of my 1939 solid axle Hudson. Is there a common shock from something else that I can get at the auto parts store that will work on this car? Does anyone know the correct number of leaf springs that this car should have on each front side? I think someone in the past may have removed 1 or 2. The car rides hard and currently has very stiff front shocks and I am looking for a better ride, newer front clip maybe??
