Okay, I need a straight answer on this one. Ted's Garage blog has (again) a story on radial versus bias-plys, and I made my own case for radial tires on the one reply that's up there-- this was about a week or two ago. I have Coker Classics on my '54 Kaiser Manhattan and sooner or later I'm going to have to rotate them--do I cross-rotate them like bias-plys or not? I've heard that radials can be cross-rotated, but is it only specific types, like polyglas, or what? A friend of mine cross-rotated his steel-belted radials once and they blew out within a few months. He figured that the tire wearing in the opposite direction caused the steel belts to work loose and led to the blowouts (the tread had not been excessively worn, so they were otherwise OK beforehand). Anyone with suggestions/answers? I'd like to hear from you. Thanks, -Tom-

Tom, You always rotate radials front to back or vice versa, on the same side of the vehicle. My father was a tire dealer for 20+years and sold several brands and I never heard a tire rep. say any different. They all said the same thing about the steel belts setting in direction after they had been run. Bias-ply tires can be rotated cross ways.

Thanks, Bob; just one last thing to clear up. Do polyglas radials follow those same rules?
