'Low' horn not sounding
-
My new Hornet only toots the high tone horn. The low one gets power, and has a good ground, but will not sound. Any suggestions? Has anyone fixed one like this?
R/ Roger.R/ Roger. -
Roger-
That's not a horn, that's a car, '54 at that. -
Some would say you want to TOOT YOUR OWN HORN. Regardless, you can try removing the dome cover and clean the contacts inside.
-
And then you'll have to adjust the screw that determines how tight the contacts are until it toots properly.
There once was a tutor who tooted,
And tutored two tooters to toot,
Said the two to the tutor,
Is it easier to toot,
Or to tutor two tooters to toot? -
I had just last week the very same issue with the low tone horn?????? I took it all apart and fiddled with it ,cleaning, adjusting, to no avail. I just replaced it with one off of a parts car even though they are differant make horns. have too many other issues to deal with at the moment and will re-address this later as they both toot know. Very nice sound be the Hudson horn!

I had the same problem a while back and here's what I did. I started with the contacts under the horn button by spraying them liberally with contact cleaner. Then I did the same thing to the hot wire going to the horn itself, after taking the wire off of the horn. Finally I sprayed the contacts inside the horn. On about the third or fourth tap on the horn ring it worked. I used the straight contact cleaner (no lubrication) from Radio Shack.
-
I'll give messing with the contacts inside the horn a try; does the dome cover just pry/pop off?R/ Roger.
-
Roger:
Twist it a tad bit counter clockwise and it should come right off. Hope the cleaner does the job for you. -
It did! I backed off the adjustment and emery'd the contact point, the had a helping hand toot while I adjusted the sound. Perfect!
Thanks to all! R/ Roger.R/ Roger. -
