Hydramatic shift points.
-
I have finished the brakes on the 51 Hornet and started driving it around the neighborhood and into town. As I said before I never had a hydramatic trans in a Hudson so I'm not sure about the shift points. Starting off from a red light it shifts twice before I get thru the intersection and into high gear about 20 mph, this is with light pressure on the gas pedal. If I start off from a stop with about 1/2 wide open it still shifts twice before I cross the intersection but the next shift happens at a higher speed. Is this pretty much normal ? All shifts are smooth and I kinda like the hydramatic.
On another note, does anyone happen to have the little flange/bracket that connects the bottom of the front shock to the "A" frame, that they are willing to sell ? PM me please. Thanks. Richie. -

It sounds normal. If you set it up the way the book says, I always feel that it shifts way too quick. You can change that by adjusting the rod, about 1/4-3/8" at a time and road testing. Take the wrenches with you and keep adjusting until it shifts a little slower than you have it now. You might like it better than you do all ready. -
There are a couple of hydramatic manuals in the online library. These have the shift points. You will want the 1951 Single Range Hydra-Matic Service Manual. Library is @;
http://hetclub.org/burr/lithomepage.htm - manuals are in the 1948-1954 manuals file.
I also am selling the manual I have for $20 - it's in a 3-ring binder and in very good condition.
