308 carbs rebuild or have them rebuilt?

Hey guys, haven't been around for awhile life can be like that sometimes. Anyway I am in need of either having my carbs rebuilt or rebuilding them myself. If I decide to do it myself where can I find the kits? Is it any harder than a standard 4 barrel? If I have them rebuilt what can I expect to spend? I hooked up with a local rebuilder, sent him all my info and never heard back. I suppose he couldn't get the parts either. The car runs and drives so they aren't completely toasted but they do leak fuel and it runs a little rough at times like they are loading up.
Anyway thanks for any info you can give.

I suppose one answer would be would you be comfortable doing the job yourself. I've done a few way, way back - don't know if I did it right, but the car ran ok afterward. As Randy says kits are available. You didn't mention a carby number - there are Carter carburetor sheets in the online library - url below.
If you don't feel comfortable doing it then I'd recommend Walt Mordenti - he's always rebuilding carbs - but I don't know what he charges.

I've done some in the past and like you they ran afterwards. I will get and post the info on the carbs this afternoon.

Get the appropriate Hudson manual for your unit before you start. There is info there not in the paperwork that comes in the kits. And if you have a way to soak out and clean the passages go ahead and try. Whats the worst that can happen ? - you have to have some one else redo it ?

I just had my twin H carbs rebuilt at Daytona Parts Co. in New Smyrna Beach Fla. Google them and read about them. I was referred to them by Dr. Doug. They did a great job. About $500.00 for both. I payed twice that a couple years ago from Walt. His were not even close to these. I highly recommend these folks.

I did this set for Scott Crowder . I can do another pair, for $300, if one supplies the kits from Randy or Daytona Carburetor. This applies to previously working carbs that are not missing parts or beaten up.

As far as carbs go, these are not that complicated. My local shop does them and their carb guy was not yet born when cars quit using these carbs....

SU carbs are simpler than Carter WA-1's. One jet does it all, no accelerator pump, no choke.......etc. Not that i favor SU's , just stating a fact, since I have rebuilt both. Quadrajets are a bit more of a challenge.....

How about the twin Jikov 30 SSOP two barrels for a Tatra T603? I redid many of those, and as for the kit? HAHAHAHA! I made the rebuild kits! From gasket material, from 0.15" thick neoprene coated nylon for the accelerator pump diaphragms, using a leather punch, a bigger hole punch set, and Exacto knife.......the fiber washers for sealing the jets, fuel inlets and banjo fittings I sourced from McMaster-Carr.

Another guy promoting a company. My charge is $490.00 for 2 carbs and that includes the kits. And they are new when finished. It's been that way since day one. Walt.

    Ken,

Do you have any of the leathers for a dashpot out of a chrysler style Carter B&B carb? I need to replace the leather on the dashpot piston. Where can you get them, do you know? Sorry, off topic for Hudson I know.
