Does anyone have a clue what this is ???
-
Hey All..I bought a box of assorted early auto parts from a guy and this was included. At first look I thought it might be some sort of old stop indicator that mounted to a windshield from or something. upon closer inspection,I see the base is cast aluminum not iron and the circle is galvanized under the paint.its about 19" long..
Does anyone have any ideas or guesses?? I'm not even sure it is automotive?? Todd

vintage school bus swing out stop sign?
-
Hehe, that's an old "wig-wag" low air pressure warning device for older airbraked vehicles in the days before the "piggy-back" spring brakes on the rear (drive) axles. Kenneth

I am going to disagree that its a wig wag ,here's why, first of all there is a thumb spring that releases the arm and there is a stop that stops the arm at 90 degrees to the upright position. If it were a wig wag why would there be the thumb release?? the release is obviously correct to it and not added.
-
Any more guesses?? I'm pretty sure it's not a wig wag..

To answer your question, see that metal circular band clamp? That is what held a small spring loaded air cylinder. when the air pressure dropped below 60 PSI, the spring would push a rod/ lever that would release the swing arm from that thumb clip. Your setup is not complete, it is missing the air cylinder.
