3 wire vs 2 wire generator
-
We were running the 37 Pu today to check out the systems and sort out any issues and found the gen light stays on.
Generator first - while checking the wiring I noticed that the 37 generator has 3 wires coming out-in, Field, Armature, and Ground -
The Regulator we have does not have a post for ground, as it is only a 4 post (B-F-T-A) regulator. The original was a 5 post =F-Gd-A-T-B. (We polarized the generator by touching F to A post quickly.)
I also notice in the manuals that earlier 36 does not have the extra generator ground wire and the 1940 doesn't have it in the schematic either. So I guess from 37 until 39 the generator ground to regulator was used?
Can I use a 4 post regulator in place of the 5 post that the 37 came with? Just leave off the ground wire from Gen to Regulator? -
Hook the ground wire under one of the regulator mounting bolts.

Marconi- ok- that is what I originally did. I'll take a test light and double check the ground connection.
Thamks! -
I found the issue, I had put the generator bulb into the wrong socket when I had the dash on the bench. Started to suspect that I had done that and switched them out, now the gen light comes on with key on and goes out when running.
I had also switched the oil Pressure light as well. (both to the top sockets) Now all is well!
