Wanted: 1941-1947 Hudson Pickup

    Hi Everyone,
I am currently down in Sacramento California going to Wyotech with no car to get around with. I was originally searching for a coupe utility with no luck due to either too high prices or too far out of town. However I do realize looking for a rare Hudson pickup is a lot to ask for. I would really prefer to find a Hudson pickup, so I could partically restore it while at Wyotech and of couse... its a Hudson! and you never have enough of em! To keep it short I want to find a 41-47' pickup with:
Hydro matic transmission (manual could work also, but I am very unfamiliar using them)
L6 engine or L8 engine with all mechanical parts there (or missing very few) and not seized.
    Drivetrain functional
    All glass decent
Body can be rusted, with dents and flaking paint (since I can fix that while at Wyotech)
    Condition #4
    1 - Excellent/Show Car; 2 - Fine Original/Restoration; 3 - Very Good Original; 4 - Good but needs repairs; 5 - Restorable; 6 - Parts Car.
    http://automotivemileposts.com/rating.html
I think HET follows the same rating system but I just want to make sure everyone is on the same page.

I am not looking for a fully restored pickup since I cannot afford them and I do not want to fix something that is not broken.
Any leads or links to currently listed vehicles are much appreciated!

    Thanks.
    Christopher

Yeah, be careful. The cabs are tight and the seatbacks are vertical. Check the HET roster (assuming you're a member) and find someone near you with a pickup. Ask if you can come over and look it over, maybe sit in it, before you make your decision.

I am considering narrowing the year range to 1946 & 1947 only since they a easier to find that the pre-war models.

Cruzer I'll email you a few questions I've got for you and my budget. I'm 5'9" tall so they should be fine for me.
I'll look into finding someone close to where I am at currently who has a Hudson PU so i can see what they are link in the cab. thanks for the advice Jon.

Cruzer, i am in West Sacramento close to Wyotech Sacramento on Stillwater road. Add the fact that I do not have a car (hence why I am looking for the truck at the moment) I would have to taxi to get to where you are. Also are the two you mentioned that might be for sale on your property or elsewhere? Maybe we could figure something out where I could see how they are their interior is and look at the other two.

Everyone makes a great point because I'm 6'4" and my knees are knocking the dash! I guess we've all grown larger than people used to be in the 40s! I have heard that folks will replace the original seat with a mid-80s to 90s Ford Ranger (smaller) pickup. The seat in mine is original and it's might hard to throw out something made with solid oak. On the other hand, I had a 41 Chevy PU, and believe me, there isn't much difference in the cab room -- they were all built that way. Now, the 46 Suburban I have is better on the seat room!

Here's a couple of dash pictures of the 41 Hudson 1/2T pickup. It's all disassembled now. I won't be going back to the original color which was green (this truck had a darker rattle can green over the original color, and someone painted over the name of the dairy where the truck was used). BTW, just so you know Christopher, look on the top passenger hinge and you will see a letter or letters stamped on it. This is the paint code for you car. The last picture is a bed of a 41 that someone owns back in Massachussets; think his name is Brady. Perry Spring in CA helped cut the wood for my 1/2T. I just need to finish rebuilding the engine for this truck, and finish body work/reassembly. I'll be redoing the woodgraining. The chassis has all new suspension parts and should ride nice since I removed about half the spring leaves in the back (stock is basically over overload springs). I installed a front stabilizer bar and need to get the rear lateral stabilizer put in. I also added a right side taillight. It's just not safe enough out there anymore without something a little more than that one tiny occulus taillight. There's one other tiny modification that we did to the bed to really dress it up more nicely which is to put a rounded trim piece at the back side of the inner fenders so that the gap where the wood butts up to the fender isn't seen. Just a little better looking. The truck below doesn't have that. You can see the flange along the inner fenders, then it ends with out curving to the outer pickup bed wall.

Re the tight cab. I drive my 47 several times a week. I'm 6' 175 and don't have a problem. It's a little verticle, but the seat back is a full 6in thick. I'm gonna modify it to taper to a thinner top. Don't need all that cushion up there.

Time to put it up for the winter. We expect snow. The tracks are from a deer standing on top of it.
