Adjusting jet brakes

I was trying to move a jet with locked brake drums, and have ruled out the parking brake and the engine being seized. We have disconnected the driveshaft and I tried to back off the star adjusters like my shop manual shows but there was no access hole for this. Apparently they are different on the step down models. How do you adjust the brakes on a jet?

Rich - I have a M P manual for Jets (for some reason?) It shows eccentric bolts with lock nuts on the inside of the backing plates. Try turning them. The shoes may be rusted to the drums. Norm

Norm is right, the Jet had different brakes form the larger cars, being Wagner Lockheed, with no adjustable stops. The shoes rest against a fixed peg at the bottom, and the pistons at the top, and are adjustable by eccentric posts in the backing plate. these have a flat on the end. Loosen the lock nut and turn the posts to get clearance, and then whack the drum all round to loosen. The hand brake cable could also be seized if it has been left on. Good luck,
