    Hi,

My dad and I bought a 1940 Pontiac Arrow Deluxe yesterday (a Canadian model I believe, so hopefully my questions can still find answers here) and are hoping to restore it to its former glory. We would like to find the VIN plate, or whatever it was called back then, to discover more about the car, but alas, the one in the engine compartment had been removed long ago. Does anyone know if Pontiac would have placed another identification plate anywhere on the car? The body is in decent shape, but everything is really stiff, and we just got the doors open today, so we haven't really searched for another plate. Knowing where to start looking would be a great help. Thanks!

The serial number for 1939-1940: On front frame cross member just below generator.

    1940 serial numbers
    40-25....6HA-1001
    40-26....6HB-1001
    40-28....8HA-1001
    40-29....8HB-1001

1940 engine number located on pad at left front of cylinder block just below cylinder head gasket.
    40-25....6-595801
    40-26....6-595801
    40-28....8-194401
    40-29....8-194401

In 1942 engine numbers same as serial numbers.

    Information from 1935-1953 Motors Manual.

I do not know if this applies to Pontiacs manufactured in Canada. I hope this will be of help.

Thanks Lee! I shall keep that in mind once we really start the taking apart process. I forgot to mention in my post that it has no engine at all, although it does still have the transmission. The person who previously owned it must have used the motor for something else, I guess.
