Hornet odometer stopped
-
My odometer just stop working at 74 K on my 54 Hornet .The speedo is working fine so I tend to thing the cable is working fine . I haven't started tearing it apart yet but I'm hoping someone has some experience here ... Is there a replacement plastic gear to replace ... If so were would someone begin to look ...Thank you in advance .....
-
My guess is the cable is broke. Could be just one of the ends are broke.

I'm not a Hudson specialist but on old cars if the speedometer is working the cable is OK and gearbox pinion as well. Most probably there is a damaged gear or a gear that shifted place so you will have to open it and have a look (dashboard side). I guess it's the first one (miles unit side) as this one is starting the move. In case there are several similar gears than the one that is damaged (if this is the case) you can use one of those to make a copy. My brother once repaired a pinion (gearbox side) and it's still running, dont't laugh, he worked as a dental technician in the past and knows what material to use for this kind of application... ;)Location : France

I had this problem on my Hornet and it was the gears inside the speedo. Pretty much has to be if the "speed needle" is working. Any competent speedometer repair shop can replace these parts.
