I broke a spark plug off at the base of the threads, #6 Do i use a extractor of some kind is there a special tool? Need Help
52 308 hasn't been run since 1966. New it would be trouble it didn't have a hose from the vent on it. So the water just sat there. Soaked them for 2 weeks prior, the first 5 came out easy. OH BOY Any Help? JOHN -
If it were mine, I would pull the head and have it checked to be sure that it was going to be usable down stream, then I would have the plug machined out trying to save the integrety of the threads have the head machined flat and reinstall. Naturally, you have not mentioned the state of the car or the condition of the engine. Perhaps it is time for a rebuild on the engine. My cure would much the same either case.....Brownie

Don't attempt to use an 'easyout' or similar LH threaded extraction device. Inevitably you will break it off in your broken sparkplug, compounding the problem.
Its a PITA but the head does need to be removed. Your options after that are to find someone who knows what he/she is doing to remove the offending plug without damaging the threads, or put another head on.
You may know this already, but the 50 or so year old oil in the sump has probably turned to jelly, the 'oil' you see on the dipstick may not be oil any more. To be safe, if you want to do anymore than bring the engine to life briefly, drop the sump and clean out the gunk. -
Thats what i thought, but wanted to check IT was out here in the country 40 miles from nowhere, A burnt valve is the story i got why it was sent to shed,then to a lean too,then next to it. then moved around with a tractor, But still the body is straight ,the frame is real good, Needs interior. Found today it needs the pipe from the exhaust manifold broken all the way off,It was wired up to it.I thought it was used to disapate the heat for vapor lock. Complete twin h a308 but it has a 262 head on it, the block was painted red but when i washed all the mud and dirt off it was gold. 72 thousand on its clock. Its a retirement project but iam not retired yet. But i had to rescue it. Ill read up and try and post some pictures,I named it happy the hornet. Thanks JOHN

I would not get too distressed over it . There are a lot of good heads around yet,

i wrestled with one like that for a week or so. finally got it out, but had to pull the head anyway! the plug came apart, with sides completly rounded and totally deformed. i had a little material left and i used one of those drive on external extracors with a impact.
