Jet Electrical Help
-
Just purchased a '54 Super Jet last week. All lights worked except the right brake lamp (this Jet was converted to 12 volts at some point) . All bulbs are good.
Went under the dash and found frayed wires, crummy connections, etc. Started to re-do everything and try to get two brake lights working. Here's where I get into trouble. Been trying every combination I can think of. When I get two brake lights, both the front indicators come on, and it lights up the turn indicators on the dash.
Any ideas on which connections I've mixed-up? -
Hi, you've obviously connected both brake lights together or tied into the parking lights. the park lights go mstraight to the headlamp switch, but the brake lights each have a wire going to the turn signal switch and from the turn signal switch to the brake light switch and from there to the battery or another hot terminal. Your original problem seems to be either a bad turn signal switch or the wiring going to the brake light which doesn't come on. Hope this helps.

I have had problems that sound like what you have and the problem was a bad ground.

Thanks. Still working... nothing solved yet.

The harness from the turn signal switch has 6 wires coming from it; 1 green, 3 brown, 1 yellow, and 1 black. The harness from the dash indicators has 2 wires; 1 green and 1 brown. The harness coming in from the front signals has 2 wires; 1 green and 1 brown. The harness that looks like it's coming from the rear has 1 brown and 1 green/brown. There is one wire that goes up to the flasher unit and another brown wire that says "break switch" on the main harness going out.
Can't get anything to work so far. -
Got it back to the way it was before...only one stop light works, but everything else seems to work. At least I can drive it
