I found an apparatus that appears to be demonstrating an early auto front suspension system..or.. perhaps a patent model? imageimage

Henry Ford had these built so that he could demonstrate the efficiency of the single cross spring used on his early cars. You could see these in NAPA dealers clear up to the mid 50's. (And, if you believe this I have 3 acres of ocean front property in Idaho I would like to sell. I can make you a great deal on it.)

Looks like it might be a prototype or sales sample of a 'shock absorber'.

An internet search turned-up an article, dated July 23, 1920, which mentions receipt of a patent by a W.D. Brown for the invention of a device known as 'Brown's Shock Absorber'...

    Thanks Rick.
You hit the nail on the head.
I think the definition of "shock absorber" has changed through the years. If it were to be used in the front end of a car with independant axles. It would be something like Hudson had prewar. Only upside down..
Now what do I do with it? Perhaps find a relative of Dear old W.D. Brown and sell it to them! LOL
