308 7X CAM ?
-
The flat top 309742 with the hydraulic lifters, it has been reground from it's original profile for the zero-lash hydraulic lifters. Hudson used up some of these 309742 cams by regrinding them to be used with the hydraulic lifters in 1956. The number on the cam doesn't mean much if the cam had been reground to a different profile, which was common. The later 7X cam was the 3011040 "super 7X". My 1953 Hornet has a '56 308 with hydraulic lifters and that reground 309742 cam. If your second 309742 doesnt have a "flat top" it is either reground or severely worn. More info on the 309742 cams here: http://www.classiccar.com/forum/discussion/108433/hudson-309742-cam-not-always-what-it-seems/p1
