head gasket
-
Has anyone had this happen? I have to replace my head gasket because water is getting into the cylinder and causing white smoke to blow out of the tail pipe. I took off the head today and started to scrape the old gasket off, but there is no head gasket! The previous owner told me he replaced the head gasket before I bought the car, however there is no gasket. BTW I have owned the car for 15 years and have had no problems except the current one and some slight leakage. The car ran great and I had no problems. Just wonder if anyone else has had this happen to them? Thanks.

Are you scrapping off a black or blue compound? If yes, some one used a sealer instead of a head gasket. Make sure you clean block and head good before you install a new headgasket. Walt.
