STEP-DOWN TIP
-
I found this tip in the 39th HET National Meet booklet hosted by Nebr./Iowa & Rocky Mountain Chapters July 21-24 1998.
STEP-DOWN TIP: Your at the hotel, the wife left for the room with the keys, leaviing you with a Hudson unlocked and lots of your valuables in the car. Now what do you do at this point. Hudson engineers solved the problem this way. Open the back door and lock down. Pressing the outside door handle button in all the way, close the door completely, and release the button. Now you have all four doors of your Hudson step-down sedan locked.

Hmm. Doesn't seem to work on my 52. Lock button will not go down unless door latch is engaged.Six in a row makes it GO!
-
I should have tried the tip on my 52 before posting. It does not work on mine either. I was hopeing I would no longer have to be the only one to lock all the doors before getting out of the car. I wonder what year stepdown the tip works on? Anyone tried it successfully?

Works only on the back doors of my Jet and Hornet. If you try and close the front doors with the button down it pops right back up again. If you're stuck in a hole, stop digging.
-
Hi Geoff on my 4 door 52 Hornet I was not able to push the rear lock button down with the door open. I wonder why it works on your Hornet and not on GrimGreasers and mine? It would be a nice feature to have. Any suggestions would be good to hear.

Hi All, I just tried it on my 54 Hornet Special 4 door and it works. With the rear door open, the locking button goes down but the outside handle button will not go in. Close the door and the inside button stays down and the door is locked. Works on both rears but not on front doors. Bruce

The front doors need to be closed at the time you push the buttons down in order for this to work. If the back door buttons won't go down with the doors open, then you need to pull the door panels and lubricate the mechanisims...at least once every 20-30 years. I agree with RonS though. My wife would never have the keys either......
