Usernames and the Reply function
-
Hello all. @46HudsonPU has emailed me to let me know that some of you were having difficulty with the reply feature of the forum. That is by placing an '@' sign directly in front of a username, that person would be alerted that they have had a reply, or a mention, in a Discussion.
Simply put, I'm afraid this function will not work if you have a space in your username. Unfortunately there is no 'fix' for this. It can be coded, but the advice from the techs is that this would cause issues down the the road.
So, in order to the reply feature work you will need to close up your username ('nickcarraway' rather than 'nick caraway'), or use an underscore (nick_carraway), however the closed option is preferable. A hyphen will work, but again, closed is the better option, followed by underscore.
Here's a guide on how to change your username.
1. Click your current username as it appears in the top navigation, above the forum:
2. In the new screen, look to the left-hand side, and click 'Edit My Account'
3. In the 'Edit My Account' pop-up box, go to the Username field, and close-up the space in your username. Press 'Save', and you're done. By the way, should you ever want to change your username, this is the process to do so.

Well, I "closed up" my username and all looked OK. New one was shown at the top. But now when I try to sign in with the new clOsed-up username, I get "your email address is not recognized" or something like that. If I go back and sign in with my unclosed-up username it lets me sign in OK, and interestingly enough it shows my closed-up username at the top. Don't you guys proof-check these instructions? Good grief!
-
I followed those very instructions and had no trouble. Could you please private message me your logins, I'll have a look at what went wrong. I'm going out for a few hours, and will look at this when I arrive back home.

Hi Scott,
I can finally post a comment but, only using the password you gave me and not my old. I would like to keep my old password and not have to remember a new one.
Gene. -
@hudsonsplasher1 (Gene!):
Once you've signed in, your username should appear in one of the boxes just under "Classic Car Forums" in the black band near the top of the page. Click on that box. When your personal page opens up, look to the left, just under your avatar photograph. Among the menu items there, should be "Change My Password". Click that. You'll see a form which asks you for your present password (the temporary one you were given) and under that, the password you desire. -
Thanks Jon. It's been a struggle to get this far.
-
@hudsonsplasher1 Did you manage to change the password to one of your choosing Gene?
-
Scott,
No, I can't make the one I want stick. If I go back the temporary one you gave me, it works.
How do I save the new one?
Gene Birdsall. -
Gene, perhaps it's best that you email it to me, and I'll change it for you.

I see that there's still a lot of usernames that are separated by a space, or are email addresses without the dots. Does anyone need help fixing up their username?
Please note, this is a screen name only - it is your email address and password you need to use for logins.
