Essex Terraplane climbs Mt. Mansfield
-
Thought it was about time this reappeared. I really like this bit of Hudson history.

neat, it's a '32 - the '33 T8s set all kinds of hillclimb records inc. going up Mt. Washington locked in 3rd gear supposedly.

Around 1933 there was, like, a team of Essex-Terraplanes (can't remember if there were any Hudsons in the mix) that went from around Birmingham, AL, up into Pennsylvania doing hill climbs. I remember that there was one in Chattanooga, another in Raleigh, VA. If you look at a map the road they followed almost has to be what is now U S 11.
Back in those days they didn't have a bunch of fancy trailers to truck the cars from hill to hill - they just did the hill climb, then drove on to the next one. Probably did some tune-up work, before each hill climb, but probably nothing major - unless something broke.
