Harold Holmes - Spoof mail - beware
-
Just got this from a Harold Holmes address but I think it is fake--
I really hope you get this on time. I didn't tell you about my visit to Spain for a short vacation, but unfortunately i was robbed at the hotel where i lodged along with other folks.
My phone was also stolen and the hotel telephone lines were disconnected during the incident. So I have access to only emails.
Please I'm going to need some sort of loan from you for me to relocate to another hotel close to the embassy and also to get another flight ticket.
Those thieves made away with my credit card as well which is why this can't be resolved instantly.I have been to the Police and they directed me to the embassy but they're not helping issues at all and my flight leaves tomorrow,i will pay back as soon as i return.
Western Union transfer is the best option to send money to me. Let me know if you need my details(Full names location) to make the transfer.
Please, Let me know if you can help me out?
I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
thanks

Guess it would depend on whether you know a Harold "Bud" Holmes. I generally try to avoid Western Unioning money to total strangers.
Could also be a way of harvesting email addresses- When you think about it, a "do you think I'm that stupid" reply gets you another address to sell, just the same as if someone actually falls for the scam. . . -

He has posted on this forum---I've purchased some parts from him for the 37 Terraplane. -
Any email concerning money over the internet is to be suspect. At least the Nigerians seemed to have stopped sending me requests to transfer the national assets of Nigeria to my bank account. Lately it's been emails from Ben Bernanke offering me credit services thru the Federal Reserve Bank - which is creative or desperate. Gotten a few notifications of lottery winnings from the European lottery lately.
Over the years I figure I've deleted in the neighborhood of $500 or $600 million dollars (maybe more) of these "free money" come-on's.
However, all that said the jokes on them in the first place - I don't have enough money in my checking account to fill my gas tank these days.
Like my Aunt Hester always said - if it's to good to be true, it probably is.
Back to watching a possum in my back yard driving my dogs crazy.

Last year, I started getting calls from friend all over the country to make sure I was actually home and OK. Someone got into my email and told everyone a similar story, except my wife and I were in Wales. I needed money etc. etc.
Sad part was that a good friend who has memory problems wanted her care giver to take her to the bank so she could send the money. Fortunately, the care giver knew it was a scam. If one in 10,000 of these things work, the scammer comes out ahead and rarely gets caught.
