Mountbatten's car to rev again
[strike]Daily News & Analysis Share[/strike]
The Silver Wraith Rolls Royce given by Queen Elizabeth to the last Viceory of India, Lord Mountbatten, and later used by several prime ministers, presidents of India and foreign heads, will run at the upcoming vintage car rally in Mumbai, India. Besides this, the Hudson Phaeton 1933, a seven-seater and eight-cylinder vehicle, the only such surviving car in the world, will also be a part of the annual rally organized by the Vintage and Classic Car Club of India. From http://www.khabar.com/magazine/cover-story/Vintage_Wonderland.aspx dtd July 2004:
Vintage cars, lovingly nurtured by 51-year-old Nitin Gordhandas Dossa, are another famous private display in Bombay. He has 48 of them, from the famous 1960 Mercedes Benz 190 SL (which once carried India's former first family, the Nehrus), to Hudson 1933, an eight-cylinder open convertible, the only one in the world.
So it existed 8 years ago in the Bombay collection.

Yup. It exists. We covered it extensively in the Forum, last November:

I tried to see this collection when I was in Bombay in 2000, however I learned about it too late in my trip for my hosts to be able to arrange it. I hope I can back to see it in the future.

Alex, you never cease to amaze me. -
That sure is a beautiful car. I think HET products of '32-'34, '36-'38 & '42 win the "prettiest grilles" of any make. Some interesting observations: No hood ornament, or even badge from what I can tell. No rear-view mirror, or any mirrors for that matter, RHD. Although, I know that the owner is still working out the details on originality, maybe he hasn't found the missing items, yet?

I wish someone would find a '33 Hudson Major 8 Brougham. My Fav!
