Chevette tranny on flathead?
-
Got an issue of Car Culture and they have an article on a guy with a 32 coupe that is running a flattie with a 5 speed chevette tranny. Said some old school flattie guys helped him do it. Does anybody on here know the details?
Just happen to have a 5 speed chevette tranny and a flattie that I am building for my dad to put in a model a roadster PU. Any details would be appreciated, I am not an experienced flathead guy. I am into mopars and hemis and this is pretty foreign to me.
cheers. -
Chevette 5 speed is just a regular "world class" borg-warner t-5. (It might be a non-world class... I forget which is which.) Regardless, it is very similar to the 5-speeds in the s-10 trucks, old Nissan pathfinders, and a number of other RWD 4 & 6 cyl cars and trucks. It has a different bolt pattern than the Camero/mustang t5...
this is all off the top of my head. Google "borg warner t-5" and you will be able to sort out which is which.
It is my understanding that there are a number of adapters for this tranny. you will need to do your homework, though.
