trivia- how many lbs does it take...

to compress coil spring to proper highth to install spindle support threaded bolts without engine or front clip.... exactly 505 lbs. when i tried jacking up car it was just raising he whole thing till i stacked weight on it. thought you guys might enjoy the picture.100_2530.JPG800 x 600 - 59K

There is an ap for that. Its called a spring compressor.

you are correct about the spring compressor! i guess i felt a little safer doing it this way, maybe that's silly on my part. i was able to slip it in place and put a jack under it and it wasn't going anywhere. it just wanted to lift the car since it didn't have any weight in front. i hate handling the compressed spring, taking it out, putting it in, having it sit around next to me while i am drinking coffee. i had one come apart on my off a one ton truck as i was putting it in the slot and i can tell you i don't want that to happen again! it was prob a little big of a spring for the plate style compressor i had at the time. the worst part was ratcheting it back down from it's fully extended state! i'm not saying don't use proper tool for the job, this just worked out good for me and i thought you guys might enjoy the picture.

You sure that's 505 lbs? Those two weights on top look like a bit more than just 2.5 lbs each...

I dropped the coil spring on a '69 Rambler I had at the time - had a hell of a time getting that sucker compressed enough to get it back in. Finally figured out of I disconnect this thing and that thing and jacked the front of the car about 10 feet in the air on the side I needed to put the spring in, that would work. LOL

you are right they are 25's on top plus the 10 45's my count was 505 but i'm no math wiz.

Years ago I had quite the opposite coil spring experiance. My wife drove a 1976 Chevette at he time and I jacked it up to change a rear tire. I heard a strange metalic twang and heard something come rolling out from under the car. It was one of the rear springs !The bottom turn on the coil was broke off. I got a new one wedgeded it back in place and set it down. No tools needed - course it was not much of a spring either ,
