brake isuues
-
I am losing brake fluid, but no fluid on garage floor. Recently installed new brake lines. Bled the lines and had good pedal feel. Drove car several times no problems. Now, after idling for a few minutes, car will creep forward and pedal goes to floor. Does come back after pumpiing. Lost 1/2 cup of fluid after short 10 mile cruise. Any ideas. Thinking my master cylinder may have a problem. Any help would be appreciated.

do you have vacuum assisted power brakes? if so, the master cyl could be leaking and the fluid is getting sucked into the intake manifold. This won't cause any or very little smoking from the exhaust. Pull the vacuum hose from the power brake unit off the intake manifold and check inside. it should be dry, if there is any liquid in it check and see if it's brake fluid. If it is then rebuild/exchange your master cyl.

Good sign that the master cylinder is by passing fluid because you say pedal comes back. Need new cylinder not rebuilding it. Walt.

Bypassing does not explian the loss of fluid. It would also help to know something about the vehicle as all brake systems are not created equal.
A lot of times if its leaking from the back of the master, with a booster it would normally show some fluid leak between the master and the booster. No power assist then it could be leaking inside and running behind the carpet or mat.
Also look at the back sides of the wheels and see if there has been fluid coming out of the drums and running onto the tires. look inside the wheel wells for moisture. Fluid running onto the tires and with driving would sling the fluid around.
