1951 Hudson Hollywood Quarter Glasses Help!!!

can anyone advise me? the quarter glasses on my 51 hollywood is 3/4" away from the stainless trim ahat is around the belt-line trim, It is wide and ugly, is there any kind of filler that is supposed to be in there to take this space up?
Do I have the windows installed wrong? they seem to work fine, there is just a very wide space between the glass frame and the trim.
