I recently found a voltage regulator from a company called MAPCO. Apparently they were a rather large supplier of ignition components until at least the 1960s. The actual name was the Machined Auto Parts Company, Detroit Michigan,USA. Does anyone know what happened to that company? Did they become absorbed into a present day conglamorate? Their logo looks alot like the old Mallory symbol.

Not them Sam, Mapco was around in 1930 and I have items from at least 1949. I believe the name is no longer copyrighted by them and others took it. I can't find them in the historical backround of Standard, Genuine Parts(NAPA), Bendix, Autolite, Dorman, Echlin(GP). There is a company in Long Island City who produces auto electric and related parts, Which is actually the home of Standard Auto Parts, but I can not find a connection. The Voltage regulator that I have is a Mapco and the original Autolite regulator cover is a perfect fit. I became curious, but not enough to go to The History Detectives( PBS). Thanks

I tried to search a Machined Auto Parts Company , Detroit Mi, I think it may have been a division of Alex's Manoogian's company, that was known as MASCO. Alex was the first person to successfully produce and market the single lever ball valve type faucet in the 1950-s, the copany is known today as Delta Faucets, a division of MASCO.
Manoogians first big contract for machining screws for the auto industry was with Hudson in 1930! Read here:

I don't know about Delta, seems to be out of their field. Interesting story though. Bob, I saw that story about the gas mart and also in Montreal, there is a Mapco that is a international parts supplier, and that is a about as close to a auto ignition manufacturer as possible, but a US company moving to Canada. Who would have thought?. I would have thought one of the old timers heard of Mapco and its whereabouts.
