Illinois Hudson Dealers in the 1930's
-
Does anyone have a list of mid-1930's Hudson dealers in Southern Illinois ?
I'd like to know if there was a dealership in the vicinity of a town called Bluffs.
My car was reputedly first sold in or near Bluffs. -
Sheldon Rody just published a book of Hudson dealers. It has a few hundred listed for all 50 states and some foreign countries. $35, I just got mine and highly recommend it. Lots of pictures of the dealers also. He is in the roster in Indiana.

Presently I have no listing of a Hudson dealer for Bluff, Il.

Have you got one listed in that sort of area ? When Norris Smith sold me the car, he told me that it had originally been an unsold '34 car that the dealer (he said in Bluffs) sold $2 draw prize tickets for when the '35s came out.
The car has only had 3 names on the Title. The first was in Peru, Illinois. Maybe Norris got it wrong. Please do you know who sold Hudsons in that part of Illinois ? -

I'm willing to put money on the fact you're going to be right, Alex ! -
I imagine the Bluffs, Illinois dealer was Luther Vortman. I know he was the dealer there in the 1940's and 1950's. I knew him and purchased some NOS parts from him in the 1960's and 1970's. Luther passed away several years ago. There also was a dealer in Beardstown, just a few miles north of Bluffs. My waning memory cannot remember the dealership name, but I am sure it will come to me one of these days. I do know the dealership name began with "A", and the name "Alton" sounds familiar. My brother works in a nursing facility in Jacksonville, Illinois, and he knows an old gentleman with Alzheimer's there who worked as the Hudson salesman at Beardstown.

I remember now that the Beardstown, Illinois, Hudson dealer was Alford. I am not sure how long he was in business, but he definitely sold Hudsons throughout the stepdown years.
Sheldon, I can give you the names and some business years of several central Illinois Hudson dealers if you need them. -
