Mystery '54 Interior Brackets
-
Hi, Guys; HornetSpecial is in the process of reassembling his '54 (you guessed it) Hornet Special sedan and is wondering where these two brackets go. He's pretty sure they're for the interior. Anyone know?

Those are for the headliner to lock the cross bow just before the rear window. This is the first bow to be installed. Walt.
-
Thank you so much, Walt, for your input. I should have tagged them. I shall be eternally grateful! A guy like you makes me happy that I belong to this great car club, the HET.
Best Regards, Paul in Minnesota -
Figures Walt would know. Thanks, Walt!
Well, Paul we've heard it run. Now you've got all winter to get the interior squared away. Next spring you'll have as nice a '54 as I've seen anywhere. Your Papa would be proud. :cheer:Workin Stiff -
Did you buy the grommets that go into the holes first, then the bow sets in? K-GAP has the grommets. Walt.
-
I did get the grommets from K Gap, but thanks for reminding me, Walt. Yea Jerre I can see light at the end of the tunnel. Dad would think anyone nuts putting the kind of money I've spent. Can't wait to drive it. Thanks for all your help !!
Paul -
Money means nothing when you drive your Hudson like I do. I never want to know what I spent total to make my Hudson the driver it is. No 2 pieces were together when I started to put it back together. I;ll tell you this much, the Germany paint job cost me $7,000, the chroming cost me $6,500, every piece was chromed, inside and out, and the upholstery shop came out to $5,500 and I supplied the material. The machine shop I never kept total, and , plus all the small stuff that was ordered, and 5 years labor. But I now enjoy driving across this country every year and have driven a total of 139,000 since 1998. And I have never had to touch the car but drive it. I can back out of my garage and drive it anywhere. Do yours the same and enjoy your labor and money spent. Walt.
-
I guess your right about the money. This car was my Dad's so it means a lot. It will stay in the family. Thanks for your help Walt. I will bring this car to Gettysburg, and try for the Albright award.
Best Regards, Paul -
These brackets are actually the stops for the windows. they prevent the front door gall window from over traveling down. They go at the bottom of the division bar.
-
I am no authority on the 54's - but that bracket looks exactly like what Clutch guy said. It doesn't look any different than the ones that are on my '51 pacemaker.
-
Maybe they used the same for each application. Wouldn't be first time.
-
Thanks a bunch !! Clutch Guy. That makes sense.Do you have a diagram or drawing on how that attaches to the division bar?
Paul -
I agree with Clutch Guy. They fasten to the bottom of the division bar so you can't literally roll your window down to the bottom of the door. Hold the piece up to the bottom of the division bar and you can see how it would stop the window.
-
I also wanted to mention that I meant no disrespect to Walt. We can't expect Walt to remember everything!
-
I know I had a couple of those pieces laying around somewhere. 27 years ago I had the car painted and reupholstered. A glass man came to the upholstery shop to do the rear window gasket install after the headliner was in, and also the door and quarter glass. Those brackets must have been left out. I put them up in a plastic tub with other small screws and bits.
The upshot of all this is: The door glass on both sides has cracked at the rear, about two inches from the rear of the glass, the cracks are almost identical on both sides. I am thinking the cracks happened when the door was shut with the windows rolled all the way down. SO, without these brackets, the window rolls down way too far and shutting the door can crack the glass??? This might be the solution to the problem before I replace the glass in the doors for the third time. If I cannot find those brackets, does anyone have a spare left and right pair to sell? Kenneth. -
The clutch guy saved me a bunch of money in future broken glass, and for that I'm grateful!!Kenneth had a great story, which lets me know how important those brackets are. Thanks to all you Hudson guys for your help. TAKE MANY PHOTOS AND LABEL EVERYTHING !!!! That's the ticket for a 6 year restoration.
