Eddie's Drive In

Now that brings back memories, for sure. There was a drive-in over near Dover, NH, used to have cruise nights once a week on Friday, or maybe it was Saturday, nites. Eventually town said they had to shut it down because there were to many cars showing up - from as far away as CT and even NY!!!!
About a year later, during the winter when the place was closed for the season, it burned to the ground. Faulty electric heater shorted out and set fire to the place.
It was rebuilt, but it was never the same.
I remember the days when we looked a hell of a lot younger - cruising the drive-in (both burger joints and the movies) was the thing to do on Sat. nights. We'd gather at the local A&W, flirt with the girls and even get out and exchange hello's and greeting's - and sometimes, with kids from other towns who showed up, maybe something a little heavier than hello's and greetings - as Paul Stukey says in his song about drive-ins. LOL

LOOKED a lot younger? We WERE a lot younger!
My girlfriend in summer of '68 was a car hop at the local A&W- skates and all. Some great memories!
Last I heard, she was on her fifth marriage, and looked like she'd been rode hard and put away wet. (Hope that last part gets past the censors- its a horse term, for horse that looks unkempt because he/she wasn't brushed and dried before going to the barn after a hard workout. But you gotta admit- it works great in other contexts, too!).
Actually, I had two girlfriends that summer- and neither knew about the other. Made for some interesting situations, some just too delicious to describe. With apologies to John Steinbeck, that was "the summer of my content." -
My home town had Peach City Ice Cream. It is still in business today. My first car was a 1949 MG and I remember draging main street (4 miles long) and later in the evening stopping by and most often giving one of the car hop's a ride home. There were some great times during the summer of 62 (my Senior Year)in this small "one horse town" with the main street lined in trees. Great memories. I often go back to Peach City for the "Homemade" peach ice cream or a hot fudge sunday...... Good times that keep on giving....Brownie

Sam thanks for posting the video link to Eddies.
All of us have a place in mind that was or is our Eddies. Recently my wife and I had the pleasure of visiting in Fredricksburg Texas. We try to satisfy our desire to relive some of the pleasures of the past and settled on the HANGER HOTEL as our place of residence during that visit. The point is the Hotel is fitted out as a 40s hotel with a definate slant toward the WWII aviator. The rooms are all decorated in this motief and to accompany this wonderful hotel is a NEW but meant to be old diner associated with the hotel. I have attached one picture of the diner. When in Fredricksburg, Texas take the time to visit and stay if you find it a place you like. There are car clubs in the area that have made this place their destination for shows, overnite stays as well as drive in to breakfast and lunch. BTW for the aviation buffs who like cars... this place located at the Fredricksburg airport. You can taxi your light aircraft right up to the front of the diner as there is a taxi strip with tie downs located in front of the diner and hotel.
Cheers... memories remade in Texas
