Post war 1950 Chevy

Howdy
I am assuming that this forum is for 1946 and later Chevys, right? Well, I got a 1950 Chevy Fleetline fordor that I am gonna put a 350 with open drivetrain in. I have located a '57 Chevy rear end and 3 speed tranny. This is the way I did it back in 1962 when I built my first 50 model, a Delux coupe. Has anybody come up with a better/more economical way since then?
Need info on engine mount kits, if any exist.
I'm going for the resto-rod look, with a basicly stock appearance, but with mild custom interior, Fiesta hubcaps, and a few more custom goodies from the fifties. I want the reliability of the later drivetrain, but I don't have a lotta bucks to go with the front end stuff like the Mustang II type kits, etc. Any ideas are welcomly accepted. Thanks

Well, guys, thanks for the huge response! I did get a couple of very helpful posts on the GM board. Ya know, the moderators/hosts that put this board up are mighty nice to do this for us, so, I think it would be a good gesture to stick a few comments on from time to time. What'cha think??

Billy if you have a 57 rear go for it. You already no it's a simple swap.

And, thanks for the response. Since I posted this, I have acquired a Muncie 4 speed and 350 from a '69 Corvette. Actually, I think the rear end is from a '55. We should have it under the car by the first of the month, if the weather holds out.
We got a few 60 degree days and gutted out all the old 216 closed shaft stuff, and she is perched up in the air now, with her butt showing!! Gonna give the undercarrage a good cleaning and spray some rust-away paint & sealer underneath, and, hopefully, get the newer rear end put in next week, so we can roll it around again.

Just an update, if theres anybody out there reading this site. We have gotten the '50 somewhat cleaned up, and are waiting for better weather to hang the '55 rear end, which we re-worked with new pinion shaft seal, wheel cyls, brake shoes and new fluid lines. Cleaned it yp, and put a coat of black paint on it. Got some '55 shock/spring mounts, so, its about ready to go back in as soon as we get the undercarrage cleaned up some.
We are working on the motor area now, de-funking 55 years of road and engine grease, so we can check out the condition of all the front end parts. Corvette motor & Muncie 4-speed are ready to set in, as soon as we get her cleaned up. Weather permitting, we hope to have it at least mocked up by next month.
Stay tuned. if interested
