The company Lorenzo Rubelli is in Venice, I was told years ago by another HET'er who's name I cannot recall, that Hudson sourced their checkered 1953 material from Italy. This company has existed in Italy since the 1850's. The material pictured is the closest match for the pattern I have seen since the Duralee fabric. The Rubelli fabric has the correct ribbed threading in the recessed squares as per the '53 Hornet material. Maybe someoen would like to contact the company and see if they can repop this material in the green and blue, as well as maybe other colors? Maybe have it made in natural and later redyed here in the USA is another option?

That's very nice. Don't know if there is enough. It reminds me that, one day I went to a dance with my girlfriend and she noticed that I was staring at the girl next to me. When my eyes met hers she said she knew what I had in mind. And we laughed. That girl next to me had a very nice mini-skirt ( with great legs by the way) and that skirt was made of the exact material I am looking for my 54! ( I think in english it's called broken-check or houndstooth)I did not want to insult her saying that I had the same in my car... And was not sure if her boyfriend would have let me sit on her legs to compare if it was as confortable as in my car... I learned after that material used from clothes is not enough strong for seats. Too bad. Will continue my search... Michel.

Thanks for the funny story of the girl in the houndstooth skirt, Michel. Are you near Montreal? My friend Martin Simek lives there, he has two Tatras from Czechoslovakia. I want to visit Montreal sometime. Vive le Habs! Kenneth

SMS Fabrics now has the 53 Hornet green interior material (at least the checkered stuff). They just sent me a sample. I am ordering some.

You're welcome Ken. I was born in Montreal 58 years ago but 6 years ago I moved about 3 hours away in the east. But I go visit relatives every 2 week-ends. If you come in Montreal, let me know, we could meet there. My brother must know your friend. He owns a 1967 Volvo 122S and he is a member of the european club there. I love this forum! Michel

How much is the price per yard and how many yards does it take for a Hornet?

Also, I have a good friend that I am doing a Jaguar XKE for, owns a shoe factory in Italy, says he would contact the Italian factory in Venice about the cloth if needed. ??

    Hello,
YES, please do ask your friend if he can be so kind as to contact the Lorenzo Rubelli offices. I can supply samples of the original Hudson material for them to see and match. Thanks, Kenneth.

For those who are following this thread, I add the following:

The company owner who posted the gold square Italian fabric on eBay was contacted. This company is a licensed vendor for the Italian fabric weaving company who makes the gold square cloth. The Italian weaving company has been in business since the early 1800s and still provides custom high quality materials for the automotive trade. On my behalf the US vendor has made an inquiry to the Italian weaver as to the availability of batch dyed fabric in the pattern posted to eBay. This information along with minimum order size, price and availability are forth coming to me.

Also SMS was contacted with a request to determine what other colors are available with the same square pattern as the blue and green fabrics. There are other colors, and samples are in route for review.

    Cheers

Hi Ken, talking about your friend Martin Simek, my brother was at the same meeting
a few weeks ago. That Tatra is quite something. My brother's Volvo was there too. And look at that garage full of Citroën. The owner has another garage like that too with an old airplane. Bye, Michel
