49 Brougham project for $2700
-
Came across this tonight. Wish it's what I was looking for...

Were I looking for a stepdown (I am not, at present - too many projects already), this would be the model & body style I would be looking for - a Brougham...
I sent the seller an email, asking a few basic questions and pointing him to this thread - hopefully he will come on board with more photos and details not in the offer in Hemmings.
Essentially, I inquired about -
- Pictures (detailed or otherwise) of the interior, engine, trunk, etc...
And indicated that a primary concern on stepdowns is the frame, specifically around the rear area/tires - which tends to rust/corrode more than other parts of the car, and is pretty expensive to repair.
I also took note from the pictures that some work has already been done to a lot of the areas of the car that would be prone to rust - lower body areas, headlights and grille trim areas, rear lights area, lower body around the trunk & rear, etc..

-
if it's from that area it shouldn't have any rust, or very little of it. Flagstaff is on I-40 in the northern part of the state at 7000' elevation. It does get heavy snows in the winter but they don't use salt on the roads here, use gravel (winter of '09-'10 they had 10 FEET, there's a ski operation up there).
-
Doesn't look terrible, if I were in the market for another project I'd take it on.
-
It seemed like a good deal on a Brougham. Hopefully he'll come over here and find someone to bring her back to life on the open road!

Yes, it's so solid that the left rocker panel fell offArkie

Now, now - let's try to play nicely...ArkieJazz wrote:Yes, it's so solid that the left rocker panel fell off
The structure for that area is all there, and the rocker looks to be intact - I would be inclined to say it was removed, and placed next to the car when the car was moved. From the size of the piece, it would probably not fit into the car.
Even a look at the chrome on the car shows it to be in really decent shape - but I will say that nothing beats an onsite inspection of the car. An up-close and personal inspection may show small pits in the chrome, the perimeter frame rotted, the interior gutted, and the engine missing - but those are unknowns.
