I think we put the cart before horse, but we put hood on before fenders. Fenders should go on Tuesday.

When I had the 36 Terraplane coupe, back in the day, it came with hood, front fenders and front grille off the car.
I did as you did - put the grille shell and hood on, then the fenders. My personal experience was that it was easier to put the fenders on first - you just have to be extremely careful not to scratch the fenders.
It can work, however, putting hood before fenders - just open the hood sides.
Never did get that 36 out of my barn - sold it to a fellow in Massachusetts.

One fender went on today. It is starting to look more like Terraplane.

Looking good Dave, I had to take the "beak" off and on about 6 times to get it all to fit right. I think that the radiator shop put the brackets on the new radiator incorrectly. It was reaching nightmare status, but it fits pretty well now. There is a lot of geometry in that nose section!
-
That is looking "sweet" Dave. Since my 36 was built at a custom house I did not paint the sides of the front grill. I think it looks good both ways?Brownie

Having grown up with my dad's 36 2dr sedan in the garage and several 36 parts car strewn across the property, and never seeing it finished, I love seeing ones like this. Beautiful.
BTW, what tires are you running on that? The tread looks pretty aggressive and the whites look ribbed.1953 Hornet sedan Twin-H

Thank you, the tires are Good Year Deluxe 6.50 x 16 and they do have 6 ribs in sidewall. BTW, do you have any parts left from the 36 parts cars? My current wish list is for the 6 pieces of stainless that go on sides of hood.

About the stainless strips for the hood,,,,There used to be a fellow,Max Merritt, in the Packard club, that could make any lenth or width stainless strip you needed. The tapered ends looked correct for the Terraplane. Might find him on the Packard site..Good Luck and the Panel looks just great....RD
-
Dave, these people make any and all types of stainless mouldings. I used them for running board strips for my '32. Nice job!
http://www.northfield-forming.com/ They are in Ohio.
Beautiful panel!

Thanks for suggestions, I have lead on a few of them now and hope to be able to find a couple more. I would rather go with original ones.

Looking good Dave. Will you have it at Gettysburg?
-
Great job, as usual - what we expect to see when your crew gets their hands on a Hudson, etc, restoration. Your restos should last for many years giving people who've never heard of Hudson, Essex or Terraplane a glimpse into the past.
And speaking of the Pittsburg resto group - I wonder how Paul is doing on his restoration of the Martz (??) custom job. Haven't seen anything from him in a while.

Original anticipated completion date was for Gettysburg and it will be there. It may be long trip to drive it, until it gets proven, so I am planning on trailering it behind our 46 pickup.

Looks REALLY GOOD Dave!

Dave, what engine is in your '46 pickup?
-
350 Olds, I call it a Hudmobile

If you had a 350 Chevy engine then you'd have a 'Heavy' pickup. hehehehe

Ken painted pinstripe on hood today.

Close-up picture like that is a tease.

Beautiful truck. I really enjoy seeing the updates. Hope to see it in person some day.
-
Nice... Is there anything that Ken can't do?
-
Thank you. Still a long way to go, but we try to get 2 good days a week working on it. Today, I fabricated hardware for inside door that holds window and we installed one door window. (hardware was missing for one side, so I duplicated it) While Ken was waiting for me to finish, he cut out hardboard for inside of firewall and side kickboards. Friday, we plan on installing running board outer trim and other door window. Ken will probably stripe doors and cowl, now that I am happy with color to accent the black.

Keep trying him, but I haven't found anything, yet. I certainly couldn't do it without his help. Mitzi keeps telling him to write a book. -
Your work is fabulous Dave. It's only about 18 months I'm in the HET Club but I already know that I will be in Gettysburg next year and your truck is one more reason to go. Hope to see a lot of you guys from the forum. Went to the Eastern regional in Albany N.Y. last june and was talking to a guy and finaly asked if he went on the forum and what was his name there and he answered: Uncle Josh! I was so glad. Next year I plan to wear a t-shirt with: "54 Superwasp on the forum"
written on it. I might have more chances to meet more users of the forum this way. That's a cool gang! Michel. -
Michel, I don't know if they still have them, but I know that they used to have a chatters breakfast where the people from the chatroom and the forums got together for fellowship and just plain fun...
Bob Hickson -
There were only four of us at the chatters meeting in Oklahoma City this year.
John Forkner -
I sure will be there if there is one in Gettysburg. Or at least, I will have that sweater made. I like the forum and I would probably recognise the users seeing their avatar or nickname on their sweaters... Anyway, I will probably ending any encounter by asking: Are you on the forum? Thank you, Bob and John, now I know your real name. That is why I have always used Browniepetersen. It is kinda hard to hide from your real name? I missed the Chat meeting but had the chance to talk to a lot of folks from the Forum in Olkahoma City. Expect to meet a lot more in Gettysburg...Brownie
-
Even though there were only 4 or more later attending the breakfast forum gathering, there were no quiet times, someone always had something to talk about. And if I counted right maybe about 10 of us gathered and remembered and enjoyed meeting the faces that we have corresponded with for several years. We did see some later after the meeting(one in the lobby) that "forgot" about the meeting. Some of us have waited several months to meet those on the forum. If you came, THANKS FOR SHARING WITH US.
-
Hi Bob! Hope to see you in Gettysburg. Your dual outlet exhaust manifold adapter is on the shelve in the garage waiting for me to put it on the 54. Every time friends come visit me, I show them that piece of art. They are quite impressed.
I knew you from the forum, but was able to see that you was quite a gentleman when we did business for that part. Thanks again! Michel.
