2 stage fuel pump

I have a 1950 ford custom four door sedan. It has a v8 flathead and 3spd on the tree. After many hours of tweeking the old carb and choke settings i finally have the car running great. It has no problem gettingup to 75 mph. Is this the max this car can go with stock fuel system? when I try to push it further she gets hesitent like running out of fuel.
