:lol: While thumbing through a recent Hemmings, I came across an ad for a "rare" '55 Hudson Hornet-Wasp. Only 1092 built and some rediculous price. Where do these "experts" come up with these figures? Another buyer be ware. Arnie in Nrvada.

According to Don Butler's book states, "A total of 7,191 Wasps were built in one Super and two Custom models..." in 1955.

People want a number so he gave them one. His guess may not be that far off, however it still looks like a guess.

I then looked at Alex Burr's Handbook states there were 1,640 2-Dr. Hollywood HT Wasp and 5,551 for the 4-Dr. Sedan.

I think this is the one we were all joking about a few months ago- beautiful restoration of a Wasp Hollywood, with AC, resulting in a car that couldn't beat a fat boy on a bicycle, speed-wise. Somebody with more patience than I could go back and find the thread.

This is one of those cars that the owner will continue to try to get the cost of the restoration out of it until the day he dies, then the estate will fire sale it to the next guy who offers half of the asking price.

I think the Hornet reference is just the reflexive addition of "Hornet" to the word "Hudson", after the Cars movie. I'm told kids see "Hudson" on a '46 at a show, and say to their friends, "Look, a Hudson Hornet!"

The engine doesn't look like a 202. The exhaust manifold on a 202 goes from back to front like the splasher motors. Perhaps PAULARGETYPE will chime in.

But we missed the point.... it is a rarer than rare HORNET - WASP! This model is so rare that even Alex's exhaustive study has yet to produce an accurate production number. Therefor, it is obviously a steal at twice the price. I think I'll buy it to go with the 49 Hudson HORNET I bought last month. It sets right next to my 53 Hornet V-8

Those figures agree with Charlie Nau's figues in his 1955-1957 AMC/Hudson Production Statistics book. Those figures were compiled from the final
series production reports for the Kenosha, Milwaukee, and El Segundo
plants.

A copy of the booklet Charlie put together can be purchased from Charlie. He's in the roster.

My 55 isn't the rare Hornet-Wasp, it's just a plain ol Hornet but if someone wants to buy it for anywhere near their asking price I will deliver it in person.
