A newbee with a Terraplane 8 1933
-
First of all a little bit of presentation of myself; !
40years old, mechanical engineer with a lovely wife & 2 lovely children (3&5)
I'm from the Netherlands and living in Northern France since 1983, it's not far from Holland but at that time it was quite a big change in language and mentality.
I've been several times to the US and I enjoyed VERY MUCH ! I went mainly to California : LA SF Vegas and Sequioa National Park any time I could go there! I had even the opportunity to see the Bony & Clyde car in San Remo ! Afterwards, I spent 1 month around Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, and had even the chance to go the Auburn Auction and as well to Put in Bay island with a Swiss friend who has a licence for small aircrafts.
I saw only a little bit of America but I really enjoyed !!!
Found of american cars, I bought a 75 Camaro L6 when I was 20, rare car and also unusual choice around here ! Then I bought an Oldsmobile Toronado 74 (still here!
) a Custom Cruiser 82 (sold as well as the Camaro after 12 years of excellent service). I decided to sell the Camaro and the station to buy a more recent car -> that was a Cadillac Eldorado Northstar with 60Kmiles (still here!) Furthermore, we have here a Pontiac Trans Sport 95 and a Ford Sierra XR4i (european version of Merkur XRTi) for daily use.
As I'm a little car sick, I was looking for a "real car", I mean a pre war, so I found a very nice Erskine 1929 Southern France but the add dissapeared and it was a little too far away. Then I saw this nice Essex Terraplane 8 1933... It took 6 month to get that beast here as the owners are very busy persons. I am very happy with this piece of history, even if there is some work to be done to get it to a good shape.
I am pretty familiar with mechanics but I will appreciate a lot your recommendations and suggestions as I have no experience with such an old grand-ma !!
Also, your help will be very usefull to find spares (NOS/rebuilt, used...)
If it's of interest for anyone of you, I will be happy to help finding spares for european cars if this can help you out of trouble !
Best regards !!
Ghislain
