40 lbs maximum torque for the head studs.If you're stuck in a hole, stop digging.

I would suggest having the wires powder coated. You might also want to carefully inspect them to make sure unrusted & tight.

For those waiting for more pics,sorry to keep you in suspense! I will not be able to post any additional pics until my '33 is removed from storage,(hopefully this fall) where it has been since 1980.
The photo below is just how it looked when I "found" it, I was a Senior in High School, 1970-1971.As near as I can tell, it had been stored there sometime before WW2! At that young age,I really had the old car bug (I still haven't found a cure)This addiction was bought on by a good friend who had managed to score for himself a sweet 1932 DeSoto rumble seat Coupe from the original owner for the princely sum of $50.00! I wanted a cool pre-war car of my own so bad I could taste it!
As it turned out, I would have to wait an additional ten years. All of this because the property owner was mentally unstable, and lived in a terribly run down house (next to the barn)with no electric or water.When I would try to approach him about selling, he would say it was tied up in a Russian Estate, or come back in "May Time",etc. Lots of insane gibberish....It took me two years just to find out the make and model, as he would not let me near the car, and often appeared on the porch with a loaded shotgun.Very early one morning I became brave(foolish) enough to sneak on the property with a friend to creep in the barn with a flashlight to get a glimpse of the radiator badge/grille to ID the vehicle.I was pleasantly surprised when I read the badge (Essex Terraplane 6) to realize I had found a super rare and cool car to make my own!And it had the tough looking Griffin radiator ornament. I tried every year to approach him to buy the car, but it became more and more dangerous.
Finally in 1980, he was evicted for back taxes due, and an auction was held. I sucessfully acquired the car, and placed it in storage, to await a proper restoration.Amazingly, the tires installed from the 1930's still hold air to this day!
Well, here it is 2011, and I am nearly 60 now, with decreased energy and mobility that come with age, so I feel it is time to do this object of my teenage dreams justice.
I hope to restore this series KU LWB Six 2 dr Coach to original showroom condition. It was equipped with the optional 16" wire wheels, and was painted a very dark maroon (mahogany)with a gold pinstripe and black fenders.No wide whites, sidemounts etc for me. I want it just as the first owner saw it!
I plan to fully document its restoration here on this forum as time and money allows.
Thanks for your interest in my treasure that has been hidden away all of these years!

Great story! The car hopefully will be straightforward to restore. At least all the mechanical parts shouldn't be too worn if it's been parked up that long!
The '33's are a nice model, very well built and the very last of the Essex's.
I attach an image of a Terraplane Eight that has been parked up for ages, for interest's sake. It was available for $12,000 about five years ago.

I got some photos of it a year or so ago & as I recall there is a Swiss dealer's plate on the firewall.
As I recall a very nice original '33 T8 sd. -
Yes, I bought the car in July 2010, there is also a nameplate on the glove box, the first owner Uno Hammerlöw with his adress in Bern CH.

No, but a friend of mine, who has French speaking relatives did. He tried to find out some info & was interested in perhaps buying it but unable to make the connections necessary.
Your's has the rather rare & expensive optional dual sidemounts. -
French speaking... what a nightmare if I remember ! 1 year understanding nothing at all at school at that time... but English and German was so easy !

Previous owner was talking about 16 units known worldwide, don't know if that figure was with or without dual side mounts.
I'm proud to have this nearly unique american car here and will take very much care of it ! It's like a Citroen Traction 15/6 in America...
There was a nice T6 version for sale last fall in Southern France, I guess there are not much Terraplanes around here...
