your impression was correct. No "production" Hudson pickups were made after the 1947 model year, but one or two custom pickups were made by the factory (my impression was that they were built in 1948-9, not later). And during the Step-Down period ('48-54) a few Hudson dealers made their own versions of Hudson pickups. Then there were individual owners over the years, who customized Step-Downs into pickups (with varying degrees of success). As to which type THIS Hudson is -- factory custom, dealer custom or individual custom -- I know not.

There are three threads concerning Stepdown Pickups on this BBS... search Stepdown Pickup to call them up... this vehicle is a ...creation...previously owned by Bill Albright and others... one of the links follows

This truck has been 'out there' for quite some time...
From the threads 'caution' is the watchword on this dealer. He is trying to pass it off as both a prototype & a 'cover/magazine' truck.
However, Bill Albright has personal knowledge & owned this truck at one time. He says it is a 'home made' job.

Here's the thread - his is the last comment -

He's obviously still pretty proud of it, too, judging from the price. I'll bet he got the truck for half that, if not less than that.

I personally e-mailed the dealer about this originally and addressed the issue about documentation. The dealer me asked for a couple Hudson contacts and while I dislike Albright's business practices and won't do business with him, I gave him Bill's name as a person who may have some knowlege on these trucks.

This dealer knows that this is not a "factory truck" and when I last communicated with him he did not have a magazine article on it either. He is dishonest and a schister as far as I'm concerned. Niels

I recall this truck being discussed before as well. For me the dead give-a-way that it is not a factory truck is the rear section of the cab. Why would hudon prototype a step-down truck with all the full smooth flowing body lines and the just "whack" the rear cab section virtually straight down? Especially since they already did earlier 46-47 pickups had nicely rounded rear cab corners?

The other thing is the rear window shape does not fit the era of design either...IMHO
