Hello all. I just recently picked up a 1981 Buick Regal with 67,000 original miles on it. She has a carbureted 3800 V6 (Non-Turbo) and I am just looking for some suggestions on some things I can do in terms of modernizing this car (Making it better on gas, etc.) I would think that maybe just replacing major components of the engine etc would help. I am in the restoration process. Thanks in advance for any input.

For better MPG the usual stuff.
Good state of tune. Properly inflated tires. Watch your driving habits.
And you could also consider taller tires and/or a rear gear change. But that would slow the car some off the line.
Unfortunaly I think that the rear drive years for those Buicks all had carburetors and it was not until the front wheel drive came the Fuel Injection (except for the turbo charged GN's).
You may want to look into swapping fuel injection from a front wheel drive Buick 3.8 (or 3800). Some things to check would be the intake bolt patterns and if it would match your block and heads. You would need a computer, harness, fuel pump to name a few things. I think the FI would also have a DIS and sometimes you find the V6's in odd or even fire.
To the best of my knowledge you cannot (or at least easily) put a front wheel drive block in a rear drive and vice versa.
