I just bought a 1941 hudson six (175 CI) deluxe 6 passenger. I am trying to get it running and am looking for a few things and any advice someone might have to a new Hudson owner. Does anyone have a thermostat or thermostat gasket, a fuel pump to block gasket. I believe this car is a 6 volt positive ground system, correct me if I am wrong. Does anyone use an 8 volt battery in these cars. Where can you find shock absorbers/springs as the car is pretty floaty when rocked back and forth. That's it for now any help would be greatly appreciated, I have just joined the club also, thanks.

Charles, Check out the online library @ http://hetclub.org/burr/lithomepage.htm - you may find some useful mechanical info under Reference Sheets in the 1940-1947 Section. There are also some Service Magazines in the Service Merchandiser section.

The club also has a virtual library - point of contact is John O'Halloran @ hetlibr@aol.com. The virtual library has far more than the online, so far!!!

And, by the way, the annual HET National meet is being held in Oklahoma City this year July 18-22nd - if you can "come on down". Well worth the trip.

Congrats on your new acquisition. You'll find Hudson folks to be a good bunch.

You might want to re-post on the "main" board- the discussion board is more for "off-topic" stuff, and many of the hard core Hudsonites don't look over here very often. Your post is very much "on topic" (Hudson car stuff) and would probably get more results on the main board.

Hi Charles, welcome to the HET club. Looks like a pretty decent car you've got there! For parts, try Jason @ Vintage Coach in Fontana, Ca. 909-823-9168 Tues to Sat, 8am till 5pm, he may be alble to help with parts. As for the 8 volt battery thing, fix what's wrong with the car, a lot of problems can be solved just by cleaning electrical connections, especially the ground connections and by using a battery with enough capacity to handle the electrical loads that are required. Yes, you are correct, the system is 6 volt positive ground. 8 volt batteries create more problems than they solve, for instance if you don't have your regulator reset to provide an 8 volt charging rate it will only charge the battery to 6 volts! 8 volts is also hard on everything else in the electrical system, generator, light bulbs, instruments, starter, etc. Either keep it 6 volts or change the entire car over to 12 volts. It would make more sense to keep it 6 volts and fix anything wrong with the system and cost a lot less in the longrun. Good luck with your car and keep us posted with your progress! If you click on to this site and type in Hudson club forum you should be able to get on and talk to a lot more people involved with Hudson Motor Cars.
