Weather at the National
-
Looks like Oklahoma City will be 106 degrees on Wednesday (29th), according to The Weather Channel site.
Checked their average forcasts for the dates of the National (Late July), and it shows 100 degrees as the average forcast.
Kinda warm, eh? -
I think Nashville was the hottest one I went to.
-
Well, if it gets over 100 in OKC, at least I'm acclimated!!! Here in Memphis we've had hi 90's, with a few days around 101, 102 and heat indexes up around 105 for the past month.
Nashville was a horror story - 110º and that was at 10 o'clock at night!!!!
The first Wichita was a bit trying too, for that matter - humidity was very high a couple days.
The 2008 Massachusetts national was very good, weatherwise - and to those of you who were there and the couple days of rain bothered you consider yourself lucky it didn't snow!!!! Hey, it's New England!!! LOL
But, if you are a die hard HudsonNut what's a few days of 100+ weather. That's what we got an air conditioned hotel for - at least it damned well better be air conditioned. Hit the bar, few beers and you won't even notice the heat.
Onward and upward - Only 19 more days to the start of the Greatest (Car) Show in the World!!!!!!!!!!!

The weather for the meet in Salt Lake City was almost perfect. The hot day way 93, most of the rest were in the high 80's. Mid to low 70's at night.....Brownie

A large part of this country has those hi temp's at some time or another. We get through it at our homes so I will get though one week in Okla. If it gets to warm for me. I'll just go inside to cool down, Then, back outside to enjoy it all. Some of the activities are inside anyway.
I'm looking forward to attend another good meet, see old friends and meet new ones. Also, I love searching the swap area for that missing part. Sometimes I get carried away and come home with something I do not really need but it is neat to look at.
My only regret is not being able to drive my Hudson to the meet this year. I was really looking forward to doing that.
Hope to see you in Okla

Hey Kiwi,
Let's try to connect at OKC - I have gift for you, and others coming from overseas. Bob Campbell, out in Oregon, cannot make the National due to health reasons so he sent me a couple dozen of the MacDonalds Doc Hudson models. He's asked me to hand them out to our visitors from overseas.
So, for all our visitors from over there I'll be wandering around the parking lot so come on up, say howdy and get your gift. To make ID easier check out my picture on the club online library site @ http://hetclub.org/burr/lithomepage.htm

There's going to be many thirsty people in the parking area!
Cheers in Jack Smith's honor!

as to having a National here in Az., Phoenix area, in the summer: today is July 3, yesterday, July 2 was an all-time high for the date at 118 degrees. I woke up about 4 a.m., outside air temp. = 90!
"Monsoons" to start today, temp. plummeting to 107 (cold snap, LOL).
Now you know why people don't COME here in the summer, they LEAVE (ala "snowbirds")! -
What about Flagstaff, Az as a posible National location. Right on I 40 and Old Route 66, Elevation 6900 ft. Weather average hi 82 degrees this time of year. 1/2 hour drive to Williams for train ride to the Grand Canyon or 1 1/2 hr senic cruise in your HET. Beautiful Sodona, Az is another short distance cruise.
Just a thought.

You could not afford the Flagstaff hotel rates that time of year if you could get a reservation. GCC tried that.

Darn, I was hopeing to take a train ride Bob. I supose your right about affording a room in Flagstaff. Ash Fork, 15 minutes from Williams, is probably in my price range. HEHE. We stayed there after a hectic 10 hr drive one night. The room was $28 dollars and we got the nostalgic old time Route 66 sleeping quarters. No extra charge for the steriophonic sounds, of a loose motel sign hiting the wall as the gentle winds blew all night.
I've heard Prescote area has grown alot. Perhaps there will be a place large enough and affordable in the future to hold a National Meet there. Pretty area and still within driving distance to Williams for a train ride to the Grand Canyon.
There must be someplace in Arizona to stay. Indian reservation????

Can the prices be that much more than what they are charging at Gettysburg next year? $119

Went outside this morning wearing my winter jacket - temps in the mid-90's with heat index somewhere between 105 and 110!!!
I'm getting acclimated for OKC!!!!!!!!!! Will be flying past Little Rock west bound for fun and games in OKC about this time next week.

It's 105 there now! -
I don't believe it!!! It's hotter in OKC than it is here in Phoenix!
Someone mentioned Flagstaff. I do not believe there is even ONE HET member there + further from Phoenix to Flag than to Prescott. -
i just got back from okc. looks like the heat got to this guy. maybe it was the bullets?100_2241.JPG800 x 600 - 52K

OKC National -
Sorry we couldn't go to the National this year. It was just too hot and humid for us to even be remotely confortable. We decided to go to Idaho and Montana instead. Catching a lot of trout! In Missoula Montana now,and no Charlie Nau in sight!
Will be in Gettysburg for sure next year!
Hope you all had a great time!
Now to get a video from John Fromn! -

Any idea how long it takes before John has them ready? I spent some time with John and I am excited to see how it turns out....Brownie -
A video from John is a great souviner - I have one from each of the nationals I've managed to attend.
Tip for watching the OKC video - turn the furnace up to max, sit back, and enjoy.

John always does a great job on the videos. I look forward to getting one also.

2010 video is shown in the WTN Classifieds at $29.95 - so should be the 2011 video. Well worth the price, believe me. I enjoy popping a disc in the DVD player, sitting back and enjoying sights and sounds from the Nationals I've attended over the years.

You can watch it in the winter, and watch everyone sweat!
